Mr. Jose Maria Castellano Rios is one of the most successful executives in the retail sector in the world. He was the leading force behind the creation, expansion and consolidation of Inditex, the largest retailer in the world, with brands such as Zara and Massimo Dutti. He started work at Inditex in 1984. He served as CEO of Inditex from 1997 to 2005, leading the company through its international expansion and its successful IPO. Following his exit from Inditex, Mr. Castellanos was President of Cableuropa, S.A.U and Grupo Corporativo ONO, S.A., where he undertook a dramatic restructuring of the cable operator and lead the successful sale to Vodafone. He was also appointed by the Spanish government to restructure the regional savings and loan NGB, which was successfully sold to a private investor group in 2013. He also serves as as Vice Chairman of Rothschild España, and as Director of Puig Beauty & Fashion Group S.L. and of the Fundacion Bankinter. Previously, he held a number of board seats such as Fadesa from June 2002 to 2005. He is a Professor of Financial Economics and Accounting at the University of A Coruña. Mr. Castellano Rios holds a Doctorate in Economics and Business from the University of Madrid, and a BS in Economics from the University of A Coruña. He is a standing member of the Royal Academy of Financial and Economic Sciences.
